UN Friends of Vision: Vision for Everyone Event
MYT assisted the virtual logistics behind the United Nations Friends of Vision, which hosted the official launch of the Lancet Global Health Commission on Global Eye Health on 24 February 2021 at 08:30 EST. The report, prepared by an international group of eye health experts, provides the latest findings on the links between eye health and the Sustainable Development Goals, the economic case for eye health, its impact on quality of life and the range of forward-looking approaches to delivering vision for everyone.
The launch of the Lancet Commission on Global Eye Health comes as United Nations Member States debate the first UN General Assembly resolution on vision. The landmark resolution seeks to explicitly recognize the important contribution eye health can make to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals; and aims to motivate action by countries, the private sector, the UN and its institutions.
This high-level event brought together UN representatives and experts in the field of vision to discuss the findings of the Lancet and how to take them forward during the next decade of action and delivery on the Sustainable Development Goals.
