IAPB Webinars: Build Back Equal

Convening an exciting panel, this informed dialogue examined the gender equity achievements in eye health up until the COVID-19 pandemic. The panel aimed to explore and understand if (and how) gender equity progress has stalled during the pandemic and what needs to be in place for a gender lens to be applied throughout the pandemic and beyond. Rather than ‘Build Back Better’, this panel argued that eye health must ‘Build Back Equal’ to ensure the good work already achieved is not allowed to regress because of the pandemic.
In talking through the programme beforehand with Jennifer Gersbeck, Chair of the IAPB Gender Equity Working Group who led the discussions, we were really keen to find an informal and engaging style for the webinar. Jennifer moderated the conversation with the presenters so well that as an attendee you felt you were part of their friendly conversation about important topics such as Covid-19 having a gendered effect and what the Eye Health sector can focus on to aid recovery and not just build back better but build back equal.
